I can't get through this book without crying. I hadn't read it in a couple of years and tonight Gracie brought it to me to read before bed. I thought I could handle it. I thought I wasn't going to cry until...Well, maybe a quick review is in order.Love You Forever by Robert Munsch is about a mother and son. Every night when the son was asleep the mother would rock the baby and sing "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living my baby you'll be."
Even through the terrible twos, the rebellious teen years and even when the boy was out on his own, his mother would sneak into his room, and when he was asleep she'd rock him and sing the same song.
Then one day she called him to come to her because she was old and sick. (Okay, here's where I get choked up.) She tries to sing the song, but can't finish it so her son picks her up, rocks her and sings "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always as long as I'm living my mommy you'll be." (Sheesh! Even as I write that I feel the emotion swelling in my chest.)
Then the boy/man goes home and rocks his baby daugher and sings the song!
A must read for every mom! Go out and buy it for your pregnant friends today!

That book made me cry the first times I read it too. What we all wanted to know was: did the mother die that night? *sniffle~snort* ;)
The one that REALLY did it to me though was Guess How Much I Love You? Oh, it took much practice before I could finish the last page with my firstborn!

I didn't recognize that book title so I looked on Amazon and guess what? We have it. Guess I'll have to break out the book and kleenex tonight.
I know this book well! It's a very touching story.
Sniffle. We actually use the Love You Forever song as our bedtime song (you can get Robert Munsch story cds, if you're interested in the tune)... and anyhow. When I was sick this past March, my little boy sang me the "As long as I'm living, my mama you'll be" version over the phone, which made the nurse who could overhear the phone call cry.
I'm not a mom. I'm not pregnant. I didn't read the book. Still, I cried.
I was given this book by my in-laws before they became my in-laws. I cried then...and I still cry when I read it. My husband has put his own little spin on the story though...he finds it a bit creepy that the mom climbs through the sons window, so he sings about "as long as I'm living, your psycho mommy I'll be".
