The Great Outdoors?

Just got back from a weekend of camping? So, I ask all you nature lovers. What's so great about camping in the great outdoors?

It takes half a day to pack and load the pop up camper and then two hours to set up when we get there. Factor in the ticks we have to pluck off the dog and each other and the paranoid mother (me) who won't let her children roll in the dirt and grass, and you've got maybe one day of fun before you have to spend another two hours packing up the camper to leave and more hours unpacking the camper at home. Then mom (me) has to spend the rest of the day doing laundry in hopes of killing all the stowaway ticks!

I need a vacation, preferably at the beach by myself with a good book, but since our mid-western state is land locked I guess a couple of hours at the nail salon tomorrow will have to do. If I can get an appointment.

BTW, I come home to my email and start bloglines hopping and find this!

I guess whether in the great outdoors or in the mall, there are critters lurking every where. Add clean purses to the list of chores I have to do today.

I enjoy camping, but I'm pretty laid back. So, with a 7 year old and a 2 year old, camping for me means sitting out in my lawn chair and watching the kids play or something. Also, the last couple of times we've gone, the inlaws have gone with us, so more help with the kids. It is a lot of work, though.

Yeah, camping seemed sooo much more fun as a kid. As a parent, all I see is the WORK it takes to PLAY. It's like being Santa (or one of his elves) 24/7/365. :)

I SOOO love camping! Put me outdoors for the summer and I am one happy gal. Weekend camping is not nearly as fun. Next time go for a week or longer. Then you have a day to set up, a week to play and a day to take down. Much more enjoyable.

A week long camping trip with ticks? I don't think I could do it. Though I heard the fall is better to camp when it comes to ticks. I MIGHT be open to that! Especially if we camped with some friends.

I hear you, Gina, about the tics and the laundry! I'm not a nature girl, and I dislike bugs. I don't want to be the dissenter of the group, but camping is WAY too much work to be fun. You won't find me out in the woods...ever. Set me up in a hotel with a jacuzzi and wi-fi:)
