My four kids are always hungry, so how do I satisfy their hunger with nutritious treats without having to prepare them every 30 minutes or so? Glad you asked!
I have a drawer in my frig designated as the snack drawer. Every time I go shopping I toss in individual applesauce, granola bars, yogurt, gogurts, raisins, fruit cups, and carrots. Then when they whine, "I'm hungry mom." I tell them to get a snack from the snack drawer. I don't have to worry whether they're eating junk. My only rule is that they can't have the same thing twice in one day. If they did then all the "good" snacks would go quickly.
I try not to restock unless it's nearly empty because sometimes they'd rather eat granola bars instead of applesauce. Try freezing gogurts for a tasty summer treat! My kids love them!
And that's what works for me!

Great Idea! Thanks for sharing~
I love - and I mean LOVE - this idea! I am all for healthy snacks and my son whines as he's looking for something. If I create a "snack drawer" that will end the looking and force him to pick from a specific place.
What a great idea, especially with school getting out and having to deal with more hungry kids home during the day.
wonderful idea
My kids are always hungry too (and usually right before supper - what's up with that?). I like the "no two of the same kind" rule. We have the "only one thing in a package" rule, and if you're still hungry, you probably just need to eat a sandwich!
I enjoyed reading through several of your posts. You are a very thoughtful person and mother. Keep it up!
Thanks for stopping by my site today!
I like the not eating the same thing twice a day rule also. We have a "snack shelf" in our pantry with crackers, granola bars, etc. I also tell the kids if they're eating somthing like crackers or pretzles to take how much they want and put it on a plate, and then put the box away. Otherwise they fill up on one thing and the stuff doesn't last as long.
That is a fabulous idea!!! Thanks for sharing!
And I just love your name!
Have your kids tried fruit leathers? Mine love them.
That is a really good idea now that school is going to be out! It'd be good for grabbing quick snacks to take for a run to the park or elsewhere, as well! Thanks for sharing! And for the visit. :)
Beautiful! We've got the snack shelf in the pantry, same concept, plastic bins loaded with single-serving approved snacks (grahams, raisins, granola bars, etc). It has worked well for us for a long time. Then they get tall enough to reach the REST of the shelves in the pantry and fridge and it's all over! :)
Good idea!
I just found your blog through CWO ring, but I see you are also a member of ACFW! Me too!
Are you going to the conference?
I just signed up today. It will be my first, and I'm very excited!
That is such a smart idea. My kids are constantly hungry. I'll have to try that one.
Thanks for sharing your great idea!
